A walk in the clouds: Going Light in white Sneakers
I’ve always believed shoes can make (or break) an outfit. But for years, I thought sneakers belonged only in the gym. Then I saw Justin Timberlake on stage in a suit and white sneakers — and realized how wrong I was.

On a recent three-week trip, I packed ballet flats and two pairs of boots, expecting to need options. In the end, I wore my white Adidas sneakers 98% of the time. The boots stayed in my bag. The sneakers carried me through every look, every setting. That trip taught me:
one good pair is all you need.

The Right Pair Matters
Not every sneaker works in every situation. To travel light without sacrificing style, keep three things in mind:
Destination & Activities
Consider climate, season, and what you’ll be doing. Sneakers that handle long walks, a casual dinner, or an unexpected dress code make the cut.
Your Personal Style
Sneakers have graduated from practical to fashion statement. Sleek, neutral designs blend with suits and dresses; bolder pairs shine when your outfit is simple. Match your sneakers to your wardrobe, not the other way around.
Fit & Comfort
If they’re your only shoes, comfort is non-negotiable. Try them on later in the day, when feet swell. A well-fitted pair will carry you further than any stilettos — some brides even wear them under gowns.
Style + Comfort = Freedom
The best travel companion is the one pair you don’t overthink. Clean them after every trip and they’ll reward you with loyalty mile after mile.
Traveling light doesn’t mean giving up style — it means carrying only what works hardest for you. In my case, that’s a single pair of white sneakers.
Travel lightly. Go lightly.
