A walk in the clouds

I believe that shoes can make (or break) an outfit, so I am always thoughtful when it comes to the shoes I wear. Before I was style savvy, I always thought sneakers are just for sports and comfort. I didn’t think of them a versatile fashion item. For that reason, I didn’t know how to travel with just one pair of sneakers. Not until I saw Justin Timberlake on stage with his white sneakers and suit, then I realized how ignorance I was!
Travel with just one pair of sneakers
I usually pack along with sneakers some dressier ballet flats for occasions that might call for a slightly more formal touch. On my recent three-week trip, I wore a pair of Adidas sneakers, and brought along a pair of block heel ankle boots and tall boots. Thinking I will need them for different outfits. To my surprise, it turned out my white sneakers were able to match with all my outfit seamlessly and I wore them 98% of the time during my trip. I wore the ankle boots for one day, and realized they could have easily been substituted with my sneakers. I never even wore the tall boots. From this experience, I learned to pack even more minimally, and I’m excited to share tips on how you can travel stylishly with just one pair of sneakers.
The right pair is all you need.
Let’s not get carried away and think that all sneakers you own can now transform your outfit and be stylish. There are still certain criteria a pair of sneakers should possess before the magic can happen.
Consider your destination:
Think about where you’ll be wearing your sneakers. Where are you jetting off to? What seasons in the year you are traveling in? Destination and weather dictate your outfit choices. Also, consider the kind of activities that you have planned. Will you be doing a lot of walking? Or will you just be lounging in a hammock on a tropical island? Will you be going to upscale places like high-end restaurants, which might have a stricter dress code? Asking these questions before you pack can help you choose the right outfits for your trip.

Identify Your Personal Style:
Sneakers definitely have gotten promoted from practical footwear to become a fashion statement over the years. It’s widely accepted by designers and stylists to incorporate them into their designs. You can pair sneakers with more than just casual wear. Mixing them with high-fashion pieces such as suits (just like JT!), dresses, or tailored trousers can create a stylishly eclectic look that stands out. This approach works well with sleek, clean sneaker designs that complement rather than dominate an outfit.
Knowing your style will help you choose sneakers that seamlessly integrate with what you already wear. Start by assessing your overall wardrobe. Are you more into a minimalist and sleek look, or do you prefer bold and colorful patterns? If the sneakers you wear are going to be the centerpiece, opt for bolder choices such as bright colors, distinctive pattern, or even unique texture. But if you are already going bold with your outfit, opt for cleaner designs and neutral colors such as white, black, beige or even navy. This balance ensures that your sneakers enhance your style cohesively.

Focus on Fit and Comfort:
Ensure the sneakers fit well and provide adequate support because they are the only shoes you are wearing for the entire trip. Trying them on later in the day when your feet are typically swollen can help you get a better fit. Comfortable sneakers will carry you effortlessly and confidently, enhancing your overall style. Some brides these days even opt of a pair of decorated sneakers underneath their bridal gowns!
Who knew comfort could look this chic?
Style isn’t just about turning heads; it has to feel like a hug for your feet too! A good pair of sneakers doesn’t just amp up your outfit, they carry you comfortably on countless adventures. Remember to give your trusty kicks a good scrub after every trips. Keep them spick and span, and they’ll be your loyal travel buddies on more journeys than you can count—looking snazzy every step of the way!
